'Obviously': ESPN pundit now claims Mauricio Pochettino prefers 22-year-old over his Chelsea teammate
Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson has been Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice striker this season.
He has made 30 appearances in all competitions and scored 11 goals, with his latest coming in the 2-2 draw with Brentford over the weekend.
Chelsea also have Christopher Nkunku who can play up front, though he is currently out injured. However, when the Frenchman was fit, Mauricio Pochettino was still utilising Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer as the No.9. Stewart Robson, who has been speaking on ESPN FC, has now claimed that the Argentine prefers Jackson over Nkunku.
His team selections have shown that, and it is probably down to the fact that Nkunku was still trying to rebuild his fitness after a stop and start season. The 26-year-old is also not a natural centre-forward.
After all of his injury problems, Pochettino does not think Nkunku is the same player who was tearing things up for Chelsea during their pre-season last summer.
Mauricio Pochettino fancies Nicolas Jackson over Christopher Nkunku
Robson has suggested that Jackson is the forward who Pochettino really trusts right now.
On the 22-year-old, he said: “There is some sort of progress in terms of consistency of selection. He obviously fancies Jackson rather than Nkunku, who’s not fully fit at the moment, and Palmer’s playing in one of those forward roles.”

Who will be Chelsea’s first-choice striker next season?
Jackson has not done a terrible job up front for Chelsea since arriving from Villarreal, reaching double figures for goals in his debut season in England, while Nkunku has proved in Germany that he is capable of finding the back of the net.
However, there is a good chance that both players are overlooked for the No.9 position in the 2024/25 campaign.
Chelsea continue to be linked with other centre-forwards, such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. If someone of his profile comes to Stamford Bridge, he is undoubtedly going to become an automatic starter.
