‘Phenomenal’ Chelsea player spotted in pre-season training, Mauricio Pochettino never started him
Chelsea players have begun to make their way back to Cobham as the build-up to a new domestic season kicks in.
New manager Enzo Maresca was yesterday given his first opportunity to get a look at some of his players ahead of his first campaign as a Premier League manager.
While it was no doubt majority fitness work on Day One, a video from the session shows the Italian beginning to get his philosophies across to the players.
It was interesting to see some of the players who were involved in the training session, with a number of youngsters included amongst the senior first team stars.
There were also a number of stars who had seen large parts of last season fall by the wayside due to injury.

This perhaps affected no player more than Wesley Fofana. The Frenchman did not play a single game during Mauricio Pochettino’s spell at the club.
Wesley Fofana back in pre-season training
However, good news from the club website as pictures emerged showing the Frenchman alongside his teammates on the training pitch.
Having been described as ‘phenomenal’ in the past by previous manager Brendan Rodgers, there is no doubt hope that a fit Fofana can revolutionise their back line at Stamford Bridge.
The preferred centre-back combination amongst many supporters would be the France international featuring alongside Levi Colwill, with both hopefully able to enjoy long careers in West London.
Colwill’s own injury demons saw him play very little part in the second half of the season. Even the minutes he did play he will likely not be too happy with.
Pochettino opted to start the England international predominantly at left-back, however reports have already stated that this is not in the plans for Maresca, who sees his future as a central defender.
They will be competing for minutes with Tosin Adarabioyo after bringing him in on a free transfer.
