'Very happy': Chelsea have been really impressed with 18-year-old youngster during pre-season so far - Romano

As far as results go, pre-season has not currently gone to plan for Chelsea so far out in the United States.

A 2-2 draw against Wrexham was followed up with a damning 4-1 defeat to Celtic at the weekend, as they still look for their first victory under the reign of Enzo Maresca.

The fixtures have so far been an opportunity for the squad to get to grips with the new manager’s style of play. Reece James’ transition to midfield is an example of one player who has had to get used to a new way of playing.

It has also provided a chance for some of the youngsters on the tour to prove that they have the capability already to make an impact as soon as this season.

One of those who seems to has done that already is Marc Guiu, the 18-year-old signed from Barcelona earlier this summer.

Chelsea very impressed by Marc Guiu

Maresca has shared he has been impressed by the teenager already in his two appearances, and now Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the club are echoing these thoughts.

He said on YouTube: “Chelsea are very happy with Marc Guiu. Enzo Maresca already said that at the moment they have no intention to let him go on loan.”

An opportunity has cropped up out of nowhere for Guiu to feature after Nicolas Jackson has been unable to take part due to injury.

Armando Broja is also with the squad, however the fact he didn’t even feature from the bench at all against Celtic suggests he is not featuring highly in the new manager’s plans.

Chelsea interested in new striker

Reports have refused to rule out the Blues making another move for a new striker before the end of the transfer window.

Their interest in Samu Omorodion is well known now, however Chelsea are not currently prepared to pay the fee that Atletico Madrid are holding out for this summer.

Guiu should feel confident that he can at least be on the bench when the Blues welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge for the first game of the season.
