'A sneaky feeling': Dean Saunders makes prediction about Chelsea for next season

TalkSPORT pundit Dean Saunders has been discussing Chelsea and how well he thinks they may do next season.

Chelsea are currently preparing for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, which they do so with yet another new individual in the manager’s dugout. Enzo Maresca is the latest Blues head coach tasked with trying to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking via ESPN last month about why he’s joined the club, Maresca said Chelsea’s squad was a major pull. There’s certainly a lot of fantastic talent inside the dressing room, but that’s mixed with plenty of youth and inexperience still learning at the highest level.

Chelsea finished sixth last season in the Premier League, so it’ll be interesting to see how they do in comparison under new management.

Dean Saunders optimistic about Chelsea

Dean Saunders has a “sneaky feeling” that Chelsea are going to have a good upcoming season because of the star quality in their ranks.

Saunders told talkSPORT: “I have got a sneaky feeling that Chelsea are going to do well. If you look at the squad, I know upfront they are lacking a bit of class down the middle, but they have got five centre-backs, they have got good full-backs, four full-backs on either side, and they have got good midfield players and then the front players you think Jackson, is he going to take enough chances that they are going to make?”

What is Chelsea’s great strength?

If there’s on area of the pitch that stands out above the rest for Chelsea, the depth of quality in the midfield is a major standout. Surely, the Blues can have a strong season if they get the balance right in the centre of the park.

Moises Caicedo went from strength to strength last season as an all-action midfielder, while Enzo Fernandez is a wonderful technician suited to possession-based football.

On top of that, Romeo Lavia should feel like a new signing in the base of midfield. Plus, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s arrival from Leicester City has gone quite under the radar but could be a great addition.
