'I think': Mykhailo Mudryk names three very fast players at Chelsea, but says they're still slower than him

Chelsea certainly possess some real speed demons in their current squad, so it’s interesting to hear who Mykhailo Mudryk thinks is the quickest.

Mykhailo Mudryk, 23, is definitely a Chelsea player who heavily relies on their pace, especially in one-on-one situations.

Speaking via Chelsea’s Instagram account back in October 2023, Ben Chilwell called Mudryk the fastest footballer he’s seen. However, does he have any genuine competition from within the Blues group?

Mykhailo Mudryk says he is Chelsea’s quickest player

It’s no great surprise to hear Mudryk say he is Chelsea’s fastest individual. In fairness, the left-winger is absolutely lightning on the football pitch.

He does give credit to Blues teammates Armando Broja, Malo Gusto and Raheem Sterling as the quickest excluding himself, though.

When asked who’s the fastest player in Chelsea’s squad via Chelsea’s official app (4 August), Mudryk responded: “I think it is me, but we have a lot of players who are fast. Armando Broja and Malo Gusto are both quick and Raheem Sterling too.”

If you’re a backline playing against Chelsea, you’ll be fearful of players like Mudryk, Sterling, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson getting in behind into space because you’re unlikely to catch any of them.

It’s make or break for Mykhailo Mudryk

It’s not been straightforward for any Chelsea player in the last couple of years because of multiple changes on and off the pitch, but Mudryk should soon be entering his last chance saloon. If he has another average season, the writing may be on the wall for his future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s deal to sign Mudryk in January 2023 cost up to £89m (BBC), but he’s not really shown why yet.

Mudryk has seven goals and four assists in 58 Blues appearances across all competitions so far, which simply isn’t good enough for an attacker.

The good news is that the speedster is still young and generally receives a lot of support from the fanbase, but sooner or later he’s got to start delivering on the pitch by living up to the potential.

One thing you can’t doubt about the Ukrainian star is his exemplary attitude. The Daily Mail reported that Mudryk returned early to pre-season to impress Enzo Maresca.

It’ll be such a fantastic story if the 23-year-old left-winger is able to turn things around and become a key player in West London.
