'So talented': BBC pundit says Chelsea man is the player he's most looking forward to watching next season
Troy Deeney has shared that one Chelsea star is the player he’s most looking forward to watching next season across the entire Premier League.
Chelsea are currently preparing for the return of the Premier League this week, which kickstarts for them on Sunday at home to reigning champions Manchester City.
The Blues were entertaining for the neutral last season because there were 140 goals in total across their 38 league matches, which averages out to well over three goals a game. Hopefully, they can continue to thrive as an attacking unit but tighten up a bit defensively.
Cole Palmer, 22, was certainly the Chelsea player leading the way as his team’s standout individual. Can he follow that up again this time around when there’s more expectation on his shoulders, though?
When it came to converting big chances last season, Palmer was the Premier League’s most clinical finisher. It’s no surprise that he’s just been nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

Troy Deeney can’t wait to watch more Cole Palmer
Troy Deeney, who’s now working as a BBC pundit, is excited to see much more of Chelsea attacker Palmer in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
“The player I am looking forward to seeing most, however, is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer. Last season he showed so much of that fearlessness on the ball that I love to see,” Deeney told BBC Sport.
“Palmer was a bit of a surprise package after his move from Manchester City, and I don’t think teams were always set up specifically to stop him.
“It will be different this time, and much harder now everyone knows how good he is, but he is so talented, I still think he will shine.”
Can Cole Palmer match remarkable debut Chelsea season?
The reality is it’s going to be very difficult for Palmer to match what he did last season during his first year at Chelsea, but he’s a special player that you shouldn’t really underestimate.
He played 45 Chelsea games across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and making 15 assists. It’s a big ask to put up similar numbers in the second year.
As mentioned above, opposition teams will no longer be surprised by the Blues attacker and set up specifcally to nullifying his threat. For Palmer, it’s going to be interesting to see how he counters that.
It’s an advantage to him that he previously worked under Blues head coach Enzo Maresca, so let’s hope he can kickstart the season in top form.
