"I think': Chris Sutton delivers his verdict on Pedro Neto's transfer move to Chelsea

Chelsea’s recruitment team must have been working over time recently because there’s been a constant stream of new players arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea announced Pedro Neto as their newest signing at the weekend during a frantic summer transfer window.

The versatile 24-year-old attacker has left Wolverhampton Wanderers to join a large Blues squad, where he’ll be aiming to force his way into Enzo Maresca’s starting line-up.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official website recently, Maresca explained his excitement about Neto joining the Blues. Hopefully, it’s the start of a fantastic spell for the Portuguese winger in London.

Chris Sutton verdict on Pedro Neto signing

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has reacted to Neto joining Chelsea by acknowledging he’s a top player, but he’ll wait to see how he copes at the Bridge.

When asked about Neto’s transfer to Chelsea, Sutton said on the BBC’s Monday Night Club: “Is he a good player? Yeah I think he is.

“Neto comes into the team and he is talented. Will (Maresca) get a tune out of him? It’s a wait and see.”

Does Pedro Neto make Chelsea’s best XI?

If Neto keeps himself fit and shows his best form, he should have a very strong chance of cementing a position in the starting team.

On paper, he’s the type of wide player that should thrive in Maresca’s system, whether that’s as a right-winger or left-winger. His ability to beat opponents one-on-one and go forward with pace is such a key asset.

There was real inconsistency from Chelsea wingers Noni Madueke, Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk throughout last season. Therefore, Neto should be confident of coming in and hitting the ground running to cement his spot.

Neto created 11 assists in 24 games across all competitions last season for Wolves. For context, Cole Palmer put up 15 assists in 48 matches last year.
