£150k-a-week Chelsea player has just been named the best U23 player in the world in his position

With the money Chelsea have spent on players since the new owners came into the club, there would be hope that they have managed to sign a few gems.

The turnover has been major at Stamford Bridge, with Todd Boehly accusing Behdad Eghbali of being obsessed with player trading as part of their ongoing rift.

While matters off the pitch continue to look uncertain, the same can thankfully not be said for what is happeing on the pitch for the Blues.

They have made a strong start to life under Enzo Maresca, with a number of key players stepping up even further under the new boss.

One of those players who is already hitting new heights is Moises Caicedo, with him now looking as if he is comfortably one of the better players in the league in his position.

Moises Caicedo the best U23 midfielder in the Premier League

The Ecuadorian has won more of his tackles than any other player in the Premier League, and currently looks one of the first names on Maresca’s teamsheet.

His brilliance seems to have gone further than just for Chelsea though. CIES Football Observatory’s data has named him the best holding midfielder in the world in the Under 23 catergory.

This puts him above the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Kobbie Mainoo, who are both extremely positively looked on in the media.

It was always going to be difficult for Caicedo to impress following the record transfer fee the club paid for him last summer.

Caicedo tipped to be future Chelsea captain

With him on a £150k-a-week contract, he sits on the upper end of the club’s new-look wage structure which seems to still be attracting big names.

John Obi Mikel, known for being quite critical of Chelsea in their current situation, has even tipped Caicedo to become captain of the club.

Next up for Chelsea will be against the midfielder’s former side, with there being no better side to prove how much he has improved in the last year against then Brighton.
