'Here's your problem': TalkSPORT pundit says the issue Enzo Maresca has ahead of Chelsea vs Brighton

Dean Saunders has explained the issue that Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has going into his side’s game versus Brighton this weekend.

Chelsea return to action in the Premier League this Saturday afternoon when they host Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca will be delighted with his side’s 5-0 victory in midweek against League Two club Barrow in the Carabao Cup. The Blues head coach made 11 changes to his team for the cup tie, so will he now revert to the same players against Brighton that won 3-0 at West Ham last weekend?

A few Chelsea stars seriously impressed against Barrow, but the league XI is difficult to break into right now.

The Chelsea selection problem

TalkSPORT pundit Dean Saunders thinks Maresca has a big issue on his hands when it comes to his team selection this weekend.

He’s highlighted that the Italian manager is likely to leave out Christopher Nkunku out of the starting XI versus Brighton despite his midweek hat-trick against Barrow. Instead, he thinks Nicolas Jackson will once again lead the line, something he did extremely well last weekend when he scored twice against West Ham.

Saunders told talkSPORT: “Here’s your problem for the manager now. He’s got to leave Nkunku out on Saturday and play Jackson.”

Nicolas Jackson vs Christopher Nkunku

We’re currently in a position where Jackson and Nkunku are fighting for the same position in Chelsea’s XI.

So far, Jackson has done nothing to suggest he should lose his starting position as the central striker. The 23-year-old’s all-round game is looking sharp at the start of the season, plus he’s got four goals in five league games.

Unfortunately, Nkunku finds himself in a very frustrating position where he’s doing everything right but without much reward. The 26-year-old forward has scored six goals in eight games across all competitions this campaign, but somehow he’s only started once in the league.

For now, it feels like Jackson has possession of the shirt and that’ll continue until he falters. In the meantime, Nkunku can only keep impressing off the bench and shining in cup competitions.
