Spanish media reacts to Conor Gallagher’s display vs Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid is always a tasty encounter, and it didn’t disappoint.

It ended in a 1-1 draw, but it wasn’t without its controversies, as the game was temporarily suspended due to Atleti fans throwing objects at Thibaut Courtois.

Conor Gallagher started and played 70 minutes before being substituted.

Interestingly, the Spanish media had a mixed response with his display.

Marca stated.

‘Gallagher was in all areas of the medullary during the first act. The Englishman recovered numerous balls and is always support for his teammates. He left the field in the 70th minute for Correa to enter.’

AS reported.

‘A lot of responsibility in the exit of the ball with his presence in the double pivot, something that does not favor him, he prefers to go up lines, bite and prowl the opponent’s area.

‘He has legs to go and bite, he is a signing called to give a lot to the team, although it was not his most brilliant night. In the second half he teamed up with Koke, with the captain going down more to receive. They could not look for goal, one of their great strengths.’

Conor Gallagher’s stats vs Real Madrid

Both outlets are right in some ways, he wasn’t at his best, but he also wasn’t awful.

Gallagher had 58 touches, a passing accuracy of 94%, won four duels, was fouled twice, one clearance, blocked two shots, had two interceptions and was dribbled past once.

Chelsea fans clearly miss Conor Gallagher as they’ve still been singing his name at Stamford Bridge, but on the field there’s currently no place for him in the Blues midfield.

John Obi Mikel has tipped Moises Caicedo to become a future captain after his incredible performances.
