'I'm really happy': Levi Colwill shares what's behind his good form following Brighton win

Levi Colwill helped Chelsea to beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2 in the Premier League over the weekend.

It has been a good start to the season for Levi Colwill, who has been one of Chelsea‘s most consistent performers so far.

He is the second-highest rated Chelsea defender on WhoScored and was part of the backline that kept clean sheets against West Ham United and Bournemouth.

During Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over West Ham, Colwill’s passing was praised by Lucy Ward.

Levi Colwill thanks Enzo Maresca for his form

Colwill is very satisfied with his form at the moment and has put it down to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

“I’m really happy with my form so far this season and I put a lot of that down to the gaffer,” the central defender was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official website.

“He’s given me a lot of confidence and he’s put a lot of trust in me to play my football. He wants me to start attacks from the back and having that trust makes me feel a big part of how we want to play.

“I want to thank him for giving the opportunities to play and for allowing me to play my football in the way I feel I’m good at. He’s always pushing me and I’m really enjoying working under him.”

Colwill and Fofana have been Chelsea’s centre-back pairing this season, with the latter managing to stay fit so far.

Enzo Maresca is getting the best out of Levi Colwill

Unlike Mauricio Pochettino, who often played him at left-back last term, Maresca is using Colwill in his natural position.

That is obviously helping Colwill to perform, with the 21-year-old operating in an area of the pitch that he is more familiar with.

You would expect Colwill to remain there for the rest of the season, while Marc Cucurella continues to hold down the left-back spot.

Colwill is a Chelsea academy graduate who cost the club nothing. If the Blues can produce more players like him for their first-team squad, then they are going to end up saving a lot of money.

In recent transfer windows, including the last one, Chelsea have sold some of their homegrown players like Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount.

More could also leave in the future, with Trevoh Chalobah deemed as surplus to requirements. The 25-year-old is currently out on loan at Crystal Palace.

However, Colwill is one individual whom the club’s owners will not be getting rid of any time soon. He is one of the best defenders at Stamford Bridge, if not the best.
