'Started to deliver': BBC pundit was so impressed with 'excellent' Chelsea player in Bournemouth victory

Chelsea just about managed to beat Bournemouth over the weekend, winning 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

However, there were quite a few good individual performances from Chelsea players on the night.

For example, both Jadon Sancho and Robert Sanchez managed to impress, with the former setting up the winning goal and the latter saving a penalty. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola claimed Sanchez was the difference between the two sides.

Moises Caicedo, who captained Chelsea at the Vitality in the absence of Reece James and Enzo Fernandez, did not do too badly either.

Troy Deeney thought Moises Caicedo was ‘excellent’ for Chelsea

While Sancho, Sanchez and match-winner Christopher Nkunku are getting all of the credit for Chelsea’s win against Bournemouth, former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has still found room to praise Caicedo.

He put him in his BBC Sport Team of the Week and said: “I think the £100m price tag is starting to wear off now. He’s started to deliver and become the player that we saw at Brighton.

“Defensively he was excellent and everyone that needed to be tackled, he tackled.”

All in all, it was probably one of Caicedo’s best performances in a Chelsea shirt. Caicedo won possession on 10 occasions, which was more times than any other player on the pitch.

Chelsea’s midfield looked physically stronger with Moises Caicedo and Renato Veiga

Renato Veiga partnered Caicedo in the middle of the park, and the 21-year-old did well considering it was his first Premier League start for Chelsea.

According to Sofascore, Veiga won five ground duels and one aerial duel. Together with Caicedo, Enzo Maresca had quite a strong and physical midfield on the night.

Costing more than £100m, Fernandez is always going to start. But for tough away games like the one Chelsea just had, it may be worth finding a way to get Veiga into the side, just to add a little bit more security to the midfield.

For £12m, Veiga looks like a really good signing. The Portuguese has been brought in to cover Marc Cucurella in the left-back position, but he showed in Chelsea’s triumph over Bournemouth at the Vitality that he can also do a job in midfield.
