‘Very pleased’: Chelsea have been delighted with how ‘fantastic’ player has started the season – journalist

Chelsea are now three games and a European qualifier into the season, with mixed results coming across the board.

Enzo Maresca has seen his side pick up a win, draw and defeat in the Premier League, although the majority of the performances have been encouraging.

Yesterday saw the Blues held at home by Crystal Palace, with them still awaiting their first domestic victory of the campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The manager has decided to name the same back four in every league game so far this season, with Reece James not being available to feature as of yet.

This has seen Levi Colwill start ahead of the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile, with him featuring in his more natural central defensive position.

Chelseea delighted with Levi Colwill’s start to the season

Journalist Kieran Gill has stated that the club have been left very impressed by what they have seen so far in this campaign from the England international.

He said: “Chelsea very pleased with Levi Colwill’s start to season. Goal today stemmed from his interception. Can’t name them, but know Chelsea turned down approach from big club for 21yo academy graduate earlier in summer. Hopefully stays healthy for 2024-25.”

Colwill partnered by Wesley Fofana

Colwill has been partnered by Wesley Fofana in the Premier League, who will be personally delighted that he has got to the first international break of the season unscathed after he missed the entirety of last season.

Frank Lebouef stated earlier this season that he had not been entirely convinced by the duo at the back, but considering these are their first appearances alongside each other, it would be fair to say they have settled nicely.

Maresca seems to have liked what he has seen from Colwill, describing him already as ‘fantastic’.

Next on the agenda will be a Premier League clean sheet under their belts, and they may see the backline changed by the time they are next in action.

James’ return from injury and suspension could be timed nicely after Malo Gusto was forced off through injury late against Palace.
