‘We are serious’: Enzo Maresca shares what he told Chelsea players just before their 5-0 Carabao Cup win

Enzo Maresca will likely have left Stamford Bridge pretty pleased with the night’s work as Chelsea booked their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues ran out 5-0 winners over Barrow, with a number of players who were finally being given a start taking their chance to impress.

Christopher Nkunku took the headlines with a superb hat-trick, as his sensational goalscoring start to the season continued.

Pedro Neto also scored his first goal for the club, and impressed greatly as he was handed a start in his preferred role on the right of attack.

There have been plenty of doubters out there over this current Chelsea team, however they have silenced a lot of those with their performances so far this season.

Enzo Maresca sent inspiring message to Chelsea players

Maresca shared after the game that he had asked the players to go out and prove a point that his side were serious about competing this season.

He said to Football London: “Before the game I asked the players even because we are the youngest squad in the league, I asked them to show how serious we are. Send a message: We are young, we are serious.”

Chelsea players pushing for starts

The Chelsea players on display last night will have been hoping to prove to Maresca that they deserve a more prominent role in the side, however changes are hard to make based on their Premier League form right now.

The likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have made it very difficult for some other players to get a look in, however it is certainly a nice problem for the manager to have going into a mountain of fixtures.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday when they take on Brighton, as they look for their first Premier League win at Stamford Bridge this season.
