Why Enzo Fernandez is missing from Chelsea's squad vs Bournemouth - journalist

Chelsea take on Bournemouth on Saturday night at the Vitality Stadium, but they’ll be without Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez for the fixture.

The Blues are back after the international break with an away match at Bournemouth in the Premier League. Unfortunately, they’ll have to make do without Enzo Fernandez in the centre of the park.

Chelsea confirmed via their official X account their starting line-up for tonight’s game.

Fernandez has been crucial for Chelsea in the early weeks of the season, playing every minute in the league so far under Enzo Maresca. However, that run stops this weekend versus Bournemouth.

Why Enzo Fernandez is out against Bournemouth

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has reported via X that Chelsea’s Fernandez is missing from the matchday squad versus Bournemouth due to illness.

Fernandez’s availability has largely been excellent since his arrival in January 2023, but let’s hope he’s back ready for next weekend’s trip to West ham.

How Chelsea will deal with it

Based on the team sheet against Bournemouth, Chelsea appear to be starting with a new-look midfield partnership of Moises Caicedo and Renato Veiga.

Of course, Caicedo is an ever-present in the side and a crucial component. He also wears the captain’s armband in the absence of Fernandez and Reece James.

Meanwhile, Veiga gets a massive opportunity away to Bournemouth to show what he can offer in the starting XI.

The 21-year-old summer signing has been used as cover at left-back in the early weeks of the season, but he’s versatile enough to drop into midfield as well. He will certainly add some real physicality and athleticism alongside Caicedo, so we’re excited to see how he gets on.
