'I always felt': Darren Bent suggests 'quick' Chelsea player isn't playing in his best position
Darren Bent doesn’t think Chelsea’s first-team player is being utilised in his best position on the pitch.
The current Chelsea squad is stacked with plenty of talent, especially in the forward areas.
It’s going to be interesting to see who Blues head coach Enzo Maresca prefers in his best line-up moving forward because he’s blessed with a lot of attacking options.
Paul Merson is surprised Chelsea didn’t sign Niclas Fullkrug in the summer, but there’s still a plethora of options at the top end of the pitch at Stamford Bridge.

Darren Bent doesn’t think Nicolas Jackson is a striker
Darren Bent has suggested that Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson isn’t playing in his best position.
The 23-year-old star has been playing as the Blues’ main central striker since he joined from Villarreal last summer, scoring 19 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions so far.
However, talkSPORT pundit Bent is adamant that Jackson’s best role is off the left wing, something he’s done on rare occasions.
He told talkSPORT: “Do you know what? I think just in front of goal, that compose in front of goal, Nicolas Jackson. In front of goal, I just think he wasn’t as prolific and he missed big chances. I always felt like he is better coming off the left.
“I think if you are looking for him to get you 20 goals this season as an out-and-out centre-forward, I don’t think that’s him. Coming off the left, I like him. He is quick, he is powerful, direct, willing runner.”
Nicolas Jackson signs new deal
Regardless of his best position on the pitch, Chelsea clearly have huge faith in Jackson’s abilities as a player. That’s been proven by him signing a contract extension at the club this week.
The Blues confirmed yesterday that Jackson has penned a two-year extension to his deal, which means he’s under contract in west London until 2033.
It’s pretty obvious that he’s the main No.9 at Chelsea when you look at the current squad. Even if you don’t think it’s his natural position, he simply has to play there at this moment in time.
We agree that the Senegal international is still a bit raw and his finishing is inconsistent, but there’s so much to admire about his all-round game.
