Chelsea fans all want their club to sign ‘phenomenal’ defender after he trains away from his current side

The Chelsea defence has been the position that has brought up the most question marks about the new-look side this season.

Goals have been free-flowing in Enzo Maresca’s system, with the likes of Cole Palmer wowing pundits in the process.

However, they have been going in the opposite net all too easily, as shown in their Carabao Cup exit to Newcastle United last night.

A fully rotated defensive line looked completely unsettled. Axel Disasi in particular disappointed Chelsea fans with his performance at right-back.

Some supporters can’t help but look back on some of the defenders they have had in their recent history as the perfect standard-bearers for the quality they should have right now.

Antonio Rudiger established himself as one of the best defenders in world football during his time at Stamford Bridge, and this has not changed since he made the move to Real Madrid.

It was reported that the German defender was training away from the first team squad after El Clasico, prompting Chelsea fans to take to Twitter to dream about him returning to the club.

One user simply said: “Bring”

Another added: “Bring my king back.”

A third stated: “We need this CB partnership” whilst attaching a video of current defender Levi Colwill.

Another user said: “Give him the homecoming he deserves.”

Even though Rudiger featured predominantly on the left of a defensive three for Chelsea, there would be qualms with fitting him in Enzo Maresca’s system.

In fact, the fluid and fast nature that is required in the high line style of football that the new manager has brought to the club.

Unfortunately though, with no real chance that Rudiger leaves Real Madrid anytime soon, this one might end up being one for those who love to dream rather thany a likely transfer for Chelsea at the moment.
