‘What a sitter’: Alan Shearer says £45m Chelsea man missed a really easy chance in Carabao Cup defeat
Chelsea lacked any real attacking spark last night as they exited the Carabao Cup at the Round of 16 stage last night.
The Blues were beaten by Newcastle United 2-0, after defeating the same opponent at Stamford Bridge just four days earlier.
Enzo Maresca decided to make 11 changes to the starting side from that game, with a number of fringe players being given the chance to prove a point to the manager.
Only really Mykhailo Mudryk took his opportunity to impress though, with there likely to be plenty of changes to the side when they make the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday.
It is unlikely that Joao Felix keeps his place in the side, with him competing for minutes with Cole Palmer this season.

Joao Felix misses ‘sitter’ for Chelsea in Carabao Cup defeat
Maresca said he didn’t bring Palmer on against Newcastle because of Felix’s performance, however Chelsea fans will not have been impressed with what they saw from him in front of goal last night.
Alan Shearer was another who criticised the Portugal international, saying during his commentary for the game that he missed an absolute sitter in the second half.
He said to BBC Sport: “What a chance, what a sitter! It is a great ball in behind for Joao Felix and Dan Burn can’t get there. He times the run to perfection, with just the goalkeeper to beat, he tries to cushion it into the net but just toe pokes it wide. A let off for Newcastle.”
Enzo Maresca didn’t really want Felix
It has perhaps been a common criticism of Felix in both his spells at Chelsea now that he lacks the clinical edge that is needed in games like last night’s.
Reports yesterday stated that Maresca was more keen on signing a centre-back instead of Felix for £45m over the summer, and the performances last night of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile backed up why he wanted this.
Chelsea fans called for Disasi to be sold after what was a nightmare display from him at the back.
