How the Spanish media reacted to Marc Cucurella's display for his country vs Serbia
Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella returned to the Spain team in their win over Serbia on Tuesday night, and the national media agreed on his level of performance.
Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella, 26, has emerged as an important player for both club and country in recent times.
The aggressive defender has started every Premier League game so far this season. Unfortunately, he’s suspended for the Blues’ trip to Liverpool immediately after the international break, so we’d guess that impressive teammate Renato Veiga will fill in as cover.
Speaking recently via The Daily Mail, Martin Keown explained why Cucurella is so “vital” to the Chelsea side.
On top of that, Cucurella was also part of the Spanish national side that won Euro 2024 in the summer, beating England 2-1 in the final. He even assisted the match-winning goal in the final with his cross for Mikel Oyarzabal.

Spanish media praise Marc Cucuruella
Cucurella received widespread praise across various publications in the Spanish media after this week’s performance for his country.
He completed 90 minutes yesterday as Spain won 3-0 at home to Serbia in the Nations League match.
Mundo Deportivo wrote: “Cucurella – Although it was not his best game with the national team, he did have a good performance, bringing freshness and dynamism to the game when the ball passed through his domain, which is the left wing.”
Sport posted: “Cucurella – 6/10. In this match he won the battle for the starting spot against [Alejandro] Grimaldo and was very active. From his boots came a great cross that [Alvaro] Morata was about to send into the net.”
Marca claimed: “Cucurella – The sensation of the Euros returned to the starting XI in the Nations League. He had the entire left flank at his disposal, which allowed him to run wild and attempt several dangerous crosses into the Serbian area.”
Marc Cucurella stats vs Serbia
Fotmob has provided the individual statistics from Cucurella’s eye-catching Spain performance in the Serbia victory:
- Match rating – 7.6
- Minutes played – 90
- Successful dribbles – 1/2 (50%)
- Touches – 77
- Accurate passes – 62/70 (89%)
- Chances created – 3
- Passes into final third – 10
- Accurate crosses – 1/1 (100%)

It was the type of busy display from Cucurella on the international stage that Chelsea supporters are used to seeing from him on a weekly basis.
The 26-year-old full-back now knows he’s got this weekend off due to the league suspension, but his game appears to be in such a great place right now. Hopefully, he can keep up this momentum for both the Blues and Spain.
It’s great to see that less and less people are discussing Cucurella’s £60m transfer cost (BBC), which is a sign that he’s turned a corner in 2024 with a consistent run of excellent form.
