'I don't know': Enzo Maresca says he's not sure when £100k-a-week Chelsea star will fulfil his potential

Under owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, Chelsea have built a very young and talented squad.

A lot of players in Chelsea‘s squad are fulfilling the huge potential they have, with the likes of Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke being prime examples.

The trio have been on fire this season, scoring 15 goals in the Premier League combined. Jackson was recently praised by Frank Leboeuf for his hard work off the ball following his performance against Liverpool, where the striker managed to find the back of the net.

Cole Palmer 6
Nicolas Jackson 5
Noni Madueke 4

However, not every Chelsea player has been able to unleash their talent under Enzo Maresca.

Enzo Maresca’s doubts about Mykhailo Mudryk

Mykhailo Mudryk is another Chelsea star with a lot of potential. His pace is not something any full-back wants to come up against.

The winger, though, has struggled at Chelsea since arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk, and Maresca has no idea when supporters are going to see the best of him.

When asked when Mudryk will fulfil his potential, the Chelsea manager told football.london and other outlets: “When? I don’t know. The only thing I can say is we try to work with Misha every day and hopefully he gets better day by day with us. It’s more or less like Joao [Felix], he is doing well, the thing is there are also more players doing well.

“The important thing in this moment for him and for the rest, when they get the chance, they take it.”

Mykhailo Mudryk should get opportunity against Panathinaikos

Chelsea take on Panathinaikos in the Conference League later, and Mudryk should get a run out against the Greek side.

Maresca has heavily rotated his team in the cup competitions this season, which means Mudryk should come into the side.

He was left out of the matchday squad for the Liverpool game so should be fresh and ready to make a point.

Maresca confirmed that the decision to omit the 23-year-old was a technical one and Mudryk has been training, so he does not seem to be carrying an injury.

According to Spotrac, the Ukrainian earns £100,000 a week at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea also spent a lot of money to sign him from Shakhtar, so a good performance against Greek opposition in Europe’s third-tier competition should really be the bare minimum.
