'When I left': Joao Felix shares what he told his friends after 2023 Chelsea exit

Joao Felix joined Chelsea during the summer transfer window to have a second spell with the club.

Chelsea initially signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid on loan in January 2023 before he returned to the Spanish outfit.

The forward then went on loan to Atletico’s rivals Barcelona before Chelsea signed him permanently in the summer.

However, since returning to the Blues, he has barely featured, with Pat Nevin frustrated that Felix didn’t play against Liverpool last weekend.

Joao Felix wanted Premier League return

Felix’s first spell at Chelsea was hardly a success either. The 24-year-old only managed to score four goals, while his side finished 12th in the Premier League table.

Felix, though, was still keen to return to England one day and told his family and friends as much.

“When I left Chelsea in 2023, I said to my family and friends that for sure I would come back to Premier League,” the Portuguese was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official website.

“I loved the time that I spent at the club previously. I enjoyed the Premier League, the players and the whole environment. I always wanted to come back, it happened a little earlier than I expected but I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea.”

Having already had a squad filled with attacking talent, Chelsea’s decision to re-sign Felix has been questioned, but Nevin is backing Felix to prove his doubters wrong.

Enzo Maresca should consider starting Joao Felix against Newcastle United

After their game against Panathinaikos in the Conference League, Chelsea welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ star player Cole Palmer will be expected to start in the No.10 role, where Felix is likely to play later, with Enzo Maresca not using him in European games.

However, against Newcastle, it could be worth starting both of them. The Magpies are good at sitting back and defending; Felix’s flair and occasional moment of brilliance could be what Chelsea need to break down their upcoming Premier League opponents.

Felix is going to have to put in a great performance later for that to happen, though, and that may still not be enough for him to win a spot in Maresca’s team.

Nkunku scored a hat-trick against Barrow in the third round of the Carabao Cup but was still dropped for Chelsea’s following game in the Premier League.
