'I told you': Pat Nevin claims 'special' Chelsea player is proving him so right
Pat Nevin has explained how one Chelsea first-team star is proving him totally right with his brilliant performances on the football pitch.
Despite all the chaos at Chelsea in the last few years, it does feel like things are starting to settle down a bit this season. Hopefully, Enzo Maresca is the right Blues manager to bring consistency and calmness at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking via The Rest Is Football this week, Gary Lineker praised Maresca for his start at Chelsea.

Pat Nevin was right about Cole Palmer
Pat Nevin, the BBC pundit and former Blues star, has been speaking about Chelsea’s incredible talent Cole Palmer after his latest performance. The 22-year-old attacker was outstanding during the weekend’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United, where he scored again and also produced a stunning long-range pass to pre-assist the opening goal.
Interestingly, Nevin has explained that Palmer is proving him totally right because he predicted his brilliance a few years ago when he made his senior debut for Manchester City.
“I told you this Palmer lad was special!” Nevin said in his BBC Football Extra newsletter.
“A while back I wrote on this page about my initial thoughts on seeing Cole Palmer come on in his first substitute appearance for Manchester City, ‘I think I have just seen the new Kevin de Bruyne,’ I ventured.
“Much surprise from my BBC colleagues followed but at the weekend the youngster produced a pass that De Bruyne would have not only been proud of but might just have classed as one of the best of his career.
“Back in the dark ages when I used to do TV analysis, I would have demanded to deconstruct the entire move, swinging the camera around 360 degrees, then using the technology to give the precise angle that Palmer could see in the moment.
“What that would have shown you was something different again. From the TV camera angles it looks like a great pass but from his eyeline it was one of the best most intelligent through-balls you will ever see. It was that brilliant.”
Joao Felix won’t budge Cole Palmer from the number 10
We’re not sure there’s anybody in the world of football right now that could dislodge Palmer from Chelsea’s number 10 position. Therefore, Joao Felix has an impossible task trying to force his way into the Blues XI as the chief playmaker.
Apart from the opening game of this season, Palmer has been starring for Maresca’s Chelsea side in the number 10 role. We don’t think that’ll change anytime soon, too!
As a result, Felix has been restricted to starts in the cup competitions whenever Palmer has been given a rest.
The 24-year-old attacker has been playing centrally behind a striker under Maresca, but he’s got the versatility to play a number of roles in the forward positions. We’d like to see Felix pushing for a starting position at striker or out wide as the season progresses.
