What Cole Palmer has just done that no Chelsea player has achieved since Ashley Cole
Cole Palmer’s meteoric rise to the top of the footballing world has only been accelerating this season.
The attacking midfielder has again been the star of the show for Chelsea, sitting on the most combined goals and assists in the Premier League.
Palmer’s performance levels ever since Enzo Maresca made the slight tweak to his position after the first game of the season have seen him somehow manage to go up a level from where he was last season.

Pundits around the league have actually been saying he is the best player we have in our game right now. Chris Sutton has stated that actually prefers him over Erling Haaland.
His brilliant 2024 has not yet seen him become a regular for his national team though. He didn’t start at all during the European Championships, much to everyone’s surprise.
Palmer first Chelsea England Player of the Year since Ashley Cole
However, this has not seen his efforts go unnoticed this level by his peers. The fellow England players voted Palmer as their player of the year for 2024, ahead of the likes of Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, it is a he first time since Ashley Cole that a Chelsea player has been the recipient of this award.
He said: “Cole Palmer is named England’s Men’s Player of the Year. Palmer voted the winner ahead of Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka. He scored England’s goal in the Euro 2024 Final.
“Palmer the first Chelsea player to win the award since Ashley Cole in 2010.”
Lee Carsley a big Palmer fan
England interim manager Lee Carsley has stated that he is a huge fan of Palmer, with him now likely to play an important role for his nation.
This is of course if he can find the pitch for enough minutes, with him competing with the likes of Phil Foden for a role.
Chelsea fans will be watching these England fixtures purely hoping that he doesn’t pick up an injury, as well as his Bluee mates joining him as part of the England camp.
Both Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke are with the squad, with the former in particular proving to be one of the best players in his position so far this season.
