What Moises Caicedo did in Chelsea's win over Newcastle that hasn't been done since N'golo Kante in 2018
Chelsea returned to winning ways in a hard-fought affair at Stamford Bridge yesterday against Newcastle United.
The Blues won 2-1 at home to end a two-game winless run, with Cole Palmer wowing pundits with his performance that also saw him score the winning goal.
In the middle of the park, Moises Caicedo gave supporters yet another reminder of his quality, keeping up his excellent start to the season.
Caicedo impressed greatly last week against Liverpool despite being on the losing side. He seemed like he was on a one-man mission to make sure all three points stayed in West London this time around.

Moises Caicedo’s seven interceptions the most for Chelsea since N’golo Kante
He has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet right now, and some Chelsea fans are no doubt believing they have found a replacement at last for N’golo Kante.
The Frenchman enjoyed a sensational spell at Stamford Bridge, and filling the void he left when he made the move to Saudi Arabia was always going to be difficult.
Caicedo has done just this though, and his statistics from yesterday’s game only back that up.
According to Squawka, the Ecuador international’s seven interceptions against Newcastle, being the first Chelsea midfielder to do so since Kante in 2018.
Have Chelsea found their best midfield?
The last two games have seen Caicedo paired with Romeo Lavia at the heart of the Blues’ midfield, with Enzo Fernandez dropping to the bench in those games.
It would seem crazy on paper to regularly bench a player who cost the club more than £100m to bring in, however it would be hard to argue that those who have started in his place are not performing at an extremely high level together.
The fact Lavia’s minutes are still being managed as he makes a full return to fitness means the World Cup winner will still get plenty of minutes in all competitions in the coming weeks.
With Caicedo’s performances this season, it looks very unlikely that he will be dropping out of the Premier League side anytime soon.
