‘I gave everything’: 23-year-old Chelsea player says his performance vs Arsenal was his best for the Blues

A lot of Chelsea players can be very proud of their efforts in yesterday’s Premier League game against Arsenal at home,

The Blues drew 1-1 with the title contenders at Stamford Bridge, after Pedro Neto scored his first league goal for the club.

Chelsea needed someone to stand up after their opponents did a job on one of their key players. Michael Owen criticised Cole Palmer’s performance after he was deemed fit late on in the build-up.

Despite their being frustration over the goal they conceded, it was overall a very solid defensive display from a backline that did not include club captain Reece James.

Wesley Fofana says performance vs Arsenal was his best for Chelsea

Wesley Fofana again started in the heart of defence, and was called upon a number of times to rescue what could have been tough moments.

The Frenchman was delighted with his individual performance, telling the Chelsea website after the game that he felt it was his best display since he joined the club.

He said: “I think this was my best [performance since returning from injury]. Against Arsenal as well, a London derby, I’m very happy. I gave everything on the pitch, I give everything for the club. I need to continue like this.”

Fofana to not represent France in international break

Fofana continued to say in that interview that he would be staying with the club for the upcoming international break rather than heading off to represent France.

The 23-year-old has formed a very strong partnership at the back with Levi Colwill, who again impressed with his ability to start attacks from defence with his passing.

Their strong performances have largely kept the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile to watching from the bench, and having to earn their minutes in the Conference League.

Fofana will no doubt be looking forward to Chelsea’s next Premier League game after the break, when they make the trip to his former side, Leicester City.
