Paul Scholes says he would loved to have played with ‘fantastic’ Chelsea player after draw with Man United

Chelsea will likely have been a bit disappointed with the result they came away with after making the trip up north to take on Manchester United.

The Blues left Old Trafford with a point after drawing 1-1 with their opponents in what was their first league game since the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

Enzo Maresca made 11 changes to the side who were beaten in the Carabao Cup in midweek, with some players performing better than others in their returns to the side.

Wesley Fofana seemed to struggle at the back. He was caught out for the penalty that Robert Sanchez gave away in the second half.

They may well have been walking away with nothing though if it wasn’t for the performance of Moises Caicedo. The midfielder scored his first goal of the season in stunning style to level the game.

Paul Scholes says he would love to have played with Moises Caicedo

It was business as usual for the Ecuador international in the middle of the park, as he put in another really solid defensive display, as well as showed his class with the ball at his feet too.

Jamie Redknapp said he preferred Caicedo alongside Romeo Lavia, with Enzo Fernandez again named on the bench in the Premier League.

Paul Scholes was full of praise for Caicedo too, saying that he is the exact kind of player he would love to play with.

He told the Premier League’s official website: “Moises Caicedo is the type of player you want to play with, you need that type of player. He was probably the best out of the four [on the pitch].”

Caicedo to be crucial for Chelsea against Arsenal

Maresca described Caicedo as ‘fantastic’, and will no doubt be thankful to him that they were able to even leave with a point yesterday,

Caicedo is easily one of the first names on the Chelsea teamsheet at the moment, and is likely to be rested again on Thursday so he can be at his best against Arsenal at the weekend.

The Blues are back in action in the Conference League against Noah at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, with there being the chance for Fernandez to prove himself again.

He will be desperate to break back into the starting side soon, however faces the tough task of replacing Lavia, who is not eligible for European matches at this stage.
