Chelsea loan watch: How every Blues loanee is performing in 2024/25 season as Alfie Gilchrist and Andrey Santos shine

Chelsea have a number of players out on loan in the 2024/25 season. Here we outline how each of them is getting on.

The Blues have been known to stockpile talent for a while now and the current situation is no different.

The West London club have multiple players in each position so there is not room for everyone in Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad.

While many will continue their development in the Chelsea academy, others will get a taste of senior football on loan at other teams.

The Chelsea Chronicle looks at how each of the Blues’ loanees are performing this season.

Chelsea players on loan 2024/25

Alfie Gilchrist

Alfie Gilchrist has played in 23 of Sheffield United’s 24 Championship fixtures in the 2024/25 season and they have only lost twice.

Gilchrist has won over Blades fans with his performances at right-back even though he is naturally a centre-back.

Andrey Santos

Andrey Santos is arguably having the best season of any of Chelsea’s loanees. The midfielder has scored seven goals and assisted another in 15 games for Strasbourg.

He was named the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Month for August and some might say Santos is already good enough to feature in the Blues’ first team.

Armando Broja

After joining on transfer deadline day, Armando Broja had to wait over three months to make his Everton due to a foot injury.

The Albanian striker will make his first start for the Toffees against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on 29 December.

Bashir Humphreys

Bashir Humphreys was shown a red card in the 98th minute of his first Championship match for the Clarets – a 1-0 win over Leeds United.

Since returning from suspension, the defender has been a mainstay in former Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker’s starting eleven.

Caleb Wiley

Caleb Wiley made his Strasbourg debut in their 1-1 draw with Montpellier on the opening weekend of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 campaign and got his first assist a fortnight later against Lyon.

He was then sidelined for a while due to a knee problem, with ex-Chelsea man Diego Moreira filling in at left-back instead. The American now has a shoulder problem.

David Datro Fofana

David Datro Fofana’s permanent move to AEK Athens collapsed so he made the most of the Turkish Super Lig’s late transfer deadline by joining Goztepe on loan.

He scored the winning goal in the 94th minute of Goztepe’s 3-2 win over Sivasspor on October 5 but has only found the back of the net once since.

Djordje Petrovic

Djordje Petrovic has started all 12 of Strasbourg’s Ligue 1 games since the September international break, conceding 21 goals.

He was excellent in the 1-0 win over Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille, making a superb save from a curling Mason Greenwood shot.

Eddie Beach

Eddie Beach’s first appearance for Crawley Town came in the EFL Trophy against Brighton under-21s, which they won on penalties.

The goalkeeper has been injured for most of the 2024/25 campaign and the Blues must be thinking about recalling him in January.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Kepa Arrizabalaga has only kept four clean sheets but the former £72 million man has not held Bournemouth back at all.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola has praised Arrizabalaga for his role in the team’s surge up the Premier League table.

Lesley Ugochukwu

Lesley Ugochukwu was superb on his Southampton debut in their 5-3 EFL Cup second-round win over Cardiff City.

Ugochukwu also impressed against Everton in the third round but the 20-year-old has surprisingly failed to receive regular minutes in the Premier League – maybe he will under new Saints boss Ivan Juric.

Mike Penders

Mike Penders is one of the most promising goalkeepers in European football, making four starts for Genk this season having turned 19 in July.

The goalkeeper has also played nine times in the Challenger Pro League for their reserve team – Jong Genk.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling was deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca and now finds himself on loan at Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Sterling scored his first and only goal for the Gunners in the EFL Cup against Bolton, having made his debut against Tottenham in the North London derby.

Trevoh Chalobah

Trevoh Chalobah joined Crystal Palace on loan in the final hours of transfer deadline day after being linked with Wolves and other clubs throughout the window.

He had to wait until October 5 to play his first game for the Eagles – a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool – but then started 10 league games in a row.
