How Trevoh Chalobah's return impacts Josh Acheampong's Chelsea future - journalist
Chelsea are bringing back a familiar face midway through the season to help them with their current defensive issues.
The Blues squad is looking a little stretched in defence right now, largely because of injuries to first-team centre-halves Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
Chelsea have recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his season-long loan with Crystal Palace. The 25-year-old defender is immediately coming back to Stamford Bridge this month to provide an option for the second half of the campaign. Afterwards, Chelsea are still expected to sell Chalobah in the summer.

What Trevoh Chalobah’s Chelsea return means for Josh Acheampong
In the last two Premier League games, Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong has started in the heart of defence alongside Levi Colwill. The 18-year-old academy graduate is beginning to get many more first-team minutes after his senior promotion.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed via X that Chalobah’s recall by Chelsea has been met with happiness by the player.
In addition, Acheampong remains highly-rated by the Blues and will continue to get senior opportunities.
Chelsea rate Acheampong as a ‘world-class prospect’, so it’s good news to hear that he won’t be cast aside because of Chalobah’s recall. It’ll surely make it harder and more competitive to stay in the starting XI, though.
Paul Merson thought Acheampong was “amazing” for Chelsea when he started recently against Palace. However, it was a bit tougher for him yesterday at home to Bournemouth.

Enzo Maresca has big decision to make
It’s now five games without a win for Chelsea in the Premier League, which means they could slip out of the top four by the time all the midweek fixtures are done.
Next, the Blues face a massive fixture when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night. It’s feeling like a must-win game, especially because they travel to Manchester City afterwards.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca faces a significant decision when it comes to who starts in central defence versus Wolves.
Levi Colwill is an ever-present as one of the centre-backs. Who partners him in the heart of defence, though?
It may be harsh and damaging to Acheampong’s confidence if he’s dropped from the side after back-to-back starts. This comes after he was substituted off during the second half of Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth immediately after he could’ve done better for one of the opposition goals.
Meanwhile, Chalobah’s surely not agreed to make a return without confidence that he’ll go straight into the side. He’s been starting regularly and playing well for Palace, so there may be an uproar from supporters if he’s come back to sit on the bench.
