Jadon Sancho set target at Chelsea he hasn’t been able to accomplish since his Bundesliga days

Jadon Sancho is beginning to rediscover his mojo again this season as he justifies leaving Manchester United to join Chelsea last summer.

Back in August 2024, Chelsea surprised plenty of people when they signed Jadon Sancho on loan with an obligation to buy from Man United. So far, it’s turning out to be a smart piece of transfer business.

The 24-year-old wide man is showing flashes of brilliance during his debut season at Stamford Bridge, where he’s competing well in a strong Blues squad.

Sancho was the standout Chelsea performer in the weekend’s 1-1 draw away to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. In recent weeks, he’s become the club’s first-choice option on the left wing.

Micah Richards sets target for Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho

Micah Richards has paid credit to Chelsea’s Sancho for his recent form and getting his career back on track in the Premier League. However, he’s now challenged the English attacker to hit his top level more consistently.

It would be great to see him recapture the kind of form he showed earlier in his career as a Borussia Dortmund player in the German Bundesliga because that consistency hasn’t been on show in England.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Richards said: “Sancho is playing well by the way… He’s really got his confidence back.

“The manager believes in him. He’s believing in himself again. It’s good to see that he’s had a little bit of adversity in his life, and he’s come back. He’s come back strong.

“I still think he needs to do it on a consistent basis; we’re talking 10-15 games.”

In 15 Chelsea appearances across all competitions, Sancho has scored two goals and created six assists. It’s a steady return from the talented winger, especially when you consider his struggles at Old Trafford recently, but we agree that he should be hungry for more.

Chelsea are delighted with the Sancho transfer and think they’ve pulled off a great piece of business. Can he now kick on in the second half of the season after settling nicely into his new home?

Can Jadon Sancho rediscover his Bundesliga form?

When he was an exciting youngster at Dortmund, Sancho was a real superstar and the epitome of consistency. In fact, his best individual campaign in the 2019/20 season saw him score 17 goals and create 17 assists in 32 Bundesliga games.

It’s a different challenge for many players to produce high attacking numbers in the Premier League after dominating in Germany’s top division, but the elite individuals do find a way to do that.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca loves Sancho and his ability in tight areas, where his fantastic dribbling shines through.

In the modern world, Sancho is going to be judged by the volume of goal contributions he posts. Let’s see if he can recapture his Bundesliga magic in the Premier League in 2025.
