Cole Palmer's past comments suggest even he didn't know how good he was going to be for Chelsea

Ever since the summer of 2023, there has been one man who has been dominating the headlines as far as Chelsea are concerned.

Cole Palmer has been arguably the best player in the Premier League since he made the move from Manchester City in that transfer window, with him finally given the chance to play first team football on a regular basis.

The England international’s brilliance since moving to Stamford Bridge can perhaps best be showcased by how many times he has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award.

Palmer has been nominated seven times for the award, and six times out of nine in 2024.

Cole Palmer’s comments suggest he didn’t know how good he would become

Surely no one could have predicted just how impactful the midfielder would be when he made the switch from the Premier League champions, and even Palmer himself may well have been surprised at his own impact.

After being interviewed three years ago following a win and a goal in the FA Cup, a very young Palmer very much maintained the same sharp and to the point mantra that he holds today.

However, it is notable that he was just hoping for Premier League appearances to come his way, and perhaps even finally find the net in that competition.

He said: “Delighted. Prem soon come, but I’ve just got to take it game by game, day by day and hopefully work my way up.

“There’s always that bit of pressure being young in the team, but you’ve just got to enjoy it.”

Even then, Palmer displayed a confidence in his ability where he was able to play for one of the best teams ever seen in England without worrying about any pressure.

Cole Palmer’s incredible Chelsea stats

Palmer’s stats speak for themselves for Chelsea. He is their top scorer and assister in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea Top Scorers in Premier League 24/25 Goals Assists
Cole Palmer 13 6
Nicolas Jackson 9 4
Noni Madueke 5 3
Enzo Fernandez 3 4
Jadon Sancho 2 4

Chelsea’s reliance on him has been clear to see too. If teams find a way to shut down Palmer, they will normally do a good job of stopping the Blues.

It remains to be seen if Palmer will take part at all in the Conference League for Chelsea this season, with him being one of the first team players left out of the squad for the group stage of that competition.
