Paul Merson and Chris Sutton completely agree on bold score prediction for Chelsea's 'must-win game' vs Wolves

Paul Merson and Chris Sutton have both predicted the same scoreline for Chelsea’s Premier League match versus Wolves on Monday night.

The Blues were excellent in the first half against Bournemouth on Tuesday but they failed to take some golden opportunities.

Reece James’ late free-kick only secured one point as the game ended 2-2, meaning Enzo Maresca’s side’s last league victory (2-1 vs Brentford) was over a month ago (15 December).

Chelsea will now be desperate to get back on track versus Wolves. Here’s what Arsenal legend Merson and former Blues striker Sutton think will happen.

Paul Merson and Chirs Sutton make Chelsea vs Wolves predictions

Paul Merson has predicted that Chelsea will be ‘easy winners’ against Wolves despite ‘completely messing up’ in recent weeks.

“I’ll be there to watch this game at Stamford Bridge on Monday night and I can’t see anything but a win for Chelsea,” he said, via Sportskeeda.

“Wolves have gone back to being what they were before. They did enjoy a bit of a run but that has now stopped. If Chelsea play anywhere near like how they played in the first half against Bournemouth, they will be easy winners.

He continued: “This is a must-win game for Chelsea. When I looked at their fixtures six weeks ago, I thought they were in the title race. But they have completely messed up these winnable games and if they drop points again, that top four berth could come under serious threat. 3-0.”

Chris Sutton, who played 39 times for Chelsea in the 1999-00 season, also believes that his former team will win comfortably on Monday night.

“Chelsea are not in great form but they are going to click again at some point and, if they do, they are going to wipe the floor with Wolves,” he told BBC Sport.

He added: “Chelsea should win comfortably, while Wolves still have a lot of work to do to get out of relegation trouble. They are in the thick of that battle at the moment.”

Chelsea will overtake Newcastle in Premier League table with win vs Wolves

As Merson alluded to, Chelsea were in the title race some weeks ago as they were not far behind leaders Liverpool with some ‘winnable’ games on the horizon.

However, the Blues have not won any of their last five league matches, including defeats to Ipswich Town and West London rivals Fulham.

After those results, Maresca’s side can forget about the title. Meanwhile, there is no guarantee that the Blues even finish in the Champions League places.

Newcastle have overtaken Chelsea after an impressive run of form but their defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday has opened the door for fourth place to be reclaimed.
