Paul Merson makes Chelsea transfer plea straight after their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City
Paul Merson has reacted to Chelsea’s away defeat at Manchester City by making a transfer plea to the club.
Chelsea now sit sixth in the Premier League after they suffered a 3-1 loss at Man City on Saturday evening.
Even though the Blues went ahead inside the opening three minutes, they failed to seize the opportunity to get a statement result. Instead, Man City responded with goals from Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden to clinch three points at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea’s player ratings versus Man City highlighted several poor individual displays. Unfortunately, the same poor mistakes are slipping into the team as their difficult run of form continues.
The team now has a small bit of time to regroup because their next match is on 3 February at home to West Ham.

Paul Merson shares his Chelsea transfer wish
Paul Merson reacted straight after Chelsea’s loss to Man City by begging the club to go out and sign a new goalkeeper.
This comes after Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez, 27, had another disappointing performance for them.
The Blues shot-stopper was nervous throughout in possession, plus he made a mistake when he was caught off his goal-line and that allowed Haaland to chip him to make it 2-1 midway through the second half.
It looks like Merson may get his wish further down the line because Chelsea do want to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Sanchez. Let’s wait and see how long that actually takes, though.
Is it time for Filip Jorgensen?
The Sanchez criticism isn’t going anywhere right now because he continues to slip up with several key mistakes.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has defiantly defended Sanchez by insisting he trusts him in-between the sticks, but the evidence is just too compelling right now.
In Filip Jorgensen, Chelsea may have the immediate answer because the 22-year-old gloveman has impressed in cup competitions this season. It would be the right call for Maresca to drop Sanchez in the next game because he’s costing his team, but we’d be as surprised as anyone if he actually does.
