‘Wants to go’: What Chelsea have done to disappoint Carney Chukwuemeka, he now wants to leave – journalist

While Chelsea look as if they aren’t going to be too busy as far as signings go this month, players leaving is likely to be high up on the agenda.

Despite showing serious potential in his limited minutes since joining the club, Carney Chukwuemeka looks as if he is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge right now.

The midfielder has started just once under Enzo Maresca, in the freezing conditions in Kazakhstan against Astana in the Conference League.

Carney Chukwuemeka disappointed at £40m valuation from Chelsea

It has been widely reported that Chukwuemeka is available for the right price, with Chelsea setting their stall at the £40m release clause in his contract.

There is also the option of him being loaned out, however it does feel as if the player’s long term future is away from the Blues.

Simon Phillips has stated that Chukwuemeka and his people have been disappointed at this valuation, with his mindset being that he wants to leave the club.

He said on the Simon Phillips Substack: “On the player’s side, they are disappointed that Chelsea appear to be valuing Chukwuemeka at £40m, which is double the price they paid to sign him. However, they have always been aware of this release clause and there is a belief within the industry that the club will let him go for less than that fee but they are just strengthening their stance in negotiations by putting this price tag out there.

“This is why SPTC sources believe this one could go down to the final days of the window and in the end, Chelsea may end up letting him go on a loan to buy deal if they can get the conditions they want.

“The player wants to go. The club have physically done all they can to freeze him out, they clearly want his somewhat more lucrative wages off their bill. But not one single person I have spoken to believe that Chelsea will get £40m for him. Chukwuemeka himself will also likely have to take a pay-cut. But he wants to play. So this one has been all rather messy since the summer.”

Which clubs are interested in Carney Chukwuemeka?

Chukwuemeka is not short of reported interest from the Premier League and beyond if he is able to secure a move away from Chelsea this month.

West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Chukwuemeka, with them also monitoring Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s situation.

Phillips’ above report stated that fellow London side Fulham have registered an interest in signing him, as they look to keep up their good run of form of late that actually saw them beat the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

There is also interest from abroad, and a potential move to play under former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, with Napoli reportedly enquiring about Chukwuemeka.
