Chelsea fans all make one observation about Renato Veiga’s performance in the Champions League, ‘incredible’…

As Chelsea continue to wait for their European campaign to get underway again in the Conference League, some other elite clubs were back in action in the Champions League.

One of those sides was Juventus, with Chelsea loanee Renato Veiga starting at the back again in a 2-1 win over PSV in the first leg of their knockout phase play-off.

The Portugal international has been an ever-present in the starting side since making the January move from Stamford Bridge, with him featuring in the centre-back position he desired from getting a move away.

Chelsea fans impressed with Renato Veiga’s ‘incredible’ passing in Champions League debut

Chelsea fans were impressed by Veiga in his debut a couple of weeks ago, potentially showing Enzo Maresca what he was missing out on as he looks for solutions at the back for the Blues.

Last night saw him make his Champions League debut, and while there was no clean sheet to boast, the loanee impressed on a personal level.

Blues supporters took to Twitter to praise Veiga again, however saying they were particularly impressed by the accuracy of his long passing.

One user said: “I watched the majority of the Juve vs PSV game, Renato Veiga was very good. Played LCB but CCB mostly in possession. Really showed his long passing range with some excellent switches & balls in behind. Made a crucial goal-saving block in the 90th minute as well.”

Another added: “Renato Veiga turned into prime Toni Kroos tonight. 11 Accurate long balls? That’s incredible. I watched that game instead of Real Madrid, and I’m glad I did.

“His passing range was incredible. Most of those long balls were diagonals to wingers, not straight down the middle. It was beautiful to watch. And he played mostly as a CCB in the middle of Kelly and Gatti.”

A third claimed: “Renato Veiga, wow! He was amazingly good today especially with those long balls. He missed only three long balls out of 14. He is very good on the ball.”

Another stated: “His vision and technique on those diagonals are something else! Effortless distribution. I believe the loan will give us more opportunities to see and appreciate him even more. That is my view on the loan.”

Finally, one user said: “Renato Veiga is a three-in-one player. Unfortunately throughout his short stay at Chelsea, Enzo Maresca never deemed it fit to play him at the CB despite he is more mature than Colwill in that role.”

Renato Veiga’s Chelsea future

Despite only being on loan, already questions are being asked of whether he has a long-term future at the club.

It was reported at the start of January that Veiga was pushing for a permanent move away from the Blues, clearly unhappy with the minutes he received in his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has already tipped Veiga to leave permanently should he get regular minutes at Juventus, with that already looking like it is going to be the case.

The Blues may be looking for a new deputy left-back far sooner than they were expecting.
