'Here we go': Chelsea have agreed for £40m player to join Borussia Dortmund, his medical is tomorrow - Romano

Chelsea are in for a busy 24 hours as they look to confirm a number of departures from the first team squad before the January transfer window slams shut.

Any new signings coming into Stamford Bridge will likely rely on moving some players on, and there are plenty they would be open to letting leave either permanently on loan.

They may get some help from a fellow Premier League side. It was expected that Everton would send Armando Broja back and loan another Chelsea player until the end of the season.

Chelsea agree deal to loan Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund

One of those mentioned as a potential option for this was Carney Chukwuemeka, with him very much out of Enzo Maresca’s plans for this season.

However, it looks as if his future lies in Europe. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that a deal has been agreed for Chukwuemeka to move to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season, with an option to buy at the end of his loan.

He said: “Borussia Dortmund agree loan deal for Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, here we go! Loan move and buy option clause included for value higher than £40m release clause. Salary covered until June and loan fee also included. Medical on Monday.”

Chukwuemeka has just one start for Chelsea this season, with that coming in the Conference League amongst a host of youngsters in the freezing conditions against Astana.

The youngster appears to have got rid of his big injury woes this season too, although that has not seen him rewarded with more minutes under the new manager.

Chelsea supporters big fans of Carney Chukwuemeka

Chelsea fans have called for Chukwuemeka to start more games, with places in the European fixtures going to the likes of Cesare Casadei instead, who has departed the club permanently this weekend.

Dortmund’s history of signing players after loan deals with them has not been strong. This is part of the reason why Jadon Sancho made the move to West London after helping them to a Champions League final last season.

Given the fact that clubs have been put off by Chukwuemeka’s release clause up to now, it feels unlikely they will sign him for that fee come the end of the season.
