'I can do much better': Chelsea player who joined last summer is adamant he can significantly raise his levels

One player in the Chelsea ranks has reflected on his own form this season by claiming that he can be so much better.

It’s been a real mixture so far from Chelsea in the 2024/25 campaign, where they’ve gone from the excellent to the excruciating.

Enzo Maresca quickly made a positive impact during his first year as the Blues manager. In fact, the expectation and outside noise increased because of such a strong first half of the season.

Unfortunately, the Blues are now trying to get out of a slump that’s seen them win only one of their last seven Premier League matches.

We think there are many individuals in the Chelsea squad that are guilty of not reaching their best heights yet. Of course, the inconsistency isn’t a surprise when you look at the inexperience and youthfulness of the group.

Chelsea player claims he can perform so much better

Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, 24, joined the club last summer in a deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers. It’s fair to say that he’s still trying to get up to full speed during his debut season with the Blues.

The Portugal international has now admitted that he’s capable of going through the gears and performing much better.

Neto told Chelsea’s official website: “I want to do better, to be honest. I know I can do much better. I’ve had good moments during the season, but I know I can do much better. I’m working on it.

“The goal is to do my best, improve and reach my level. That is my goal. I have to finish in the best way.”

We agree that Neto can reach much higher individual levels, especially when you remember how effective he was in the Premier League for Wolves. The fact that he’s only scored three goals across all competitions this campaign is poor by his standards.

Conference League 3 1 3
Conference League qualifiers 1 0 0

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca claims wingers such as Neto need to score more, so let’s see if he can put together a big second half of the season. There’s no doubt that the team are crying out for some extra help in attack right now.

What Jamie Carragher said about Pedro Neto in the summer

A lot of Blues supporters were excited when they signed Neto from Wolves before the start of the season. Many people believed he could make the step up after shining for years at Molineux Stadium.

Back in the summer, Jamie Carragher named Neto to Chelsea as the Premier League’s best signing.

However, the left-footed attacker is still yet to fully justify the hype, even though there’s been some flashes of brilliance.

Blues winger Noni Madueke, who also blows a bit hot and cold, is up to eight goals across all competitions this season. It puts into perspective that Neto drastically needs to increase his attacking output to stay in the XI.
