Ruben Amorim’s verdict on Dario Essugo will excite Chelsea fans ahead of Stamford Bridge arrival
The transfer merry-go-round has continued at Chelsea on deadline day, with a number of ins and outs at Stamford Bridge.
Joao Felix is set to link up with AC Milan, meanwhile, Axel Disasi is close to joining Tottenham on loan.
In terms of incomings, the Blues are seemingly concentrated on bringing in youngsters with Mathis Amougou expected to join Chelsea before the 11 pm deadline.
Another youngster who looks set to arrive at Stamford Bridge is Dario Essugo, who is set to join Chelsea for £17 million.
Relatively unknown outside of his native Portugal, Chelsea fans will no doubt want to know more about their new signing.
With that being said, someone who is very familiar with Essugo’s talents is current Man United boss Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim is a big fan of Dario Essugo
Having managed Essugo at Sporting Lisbon, Amorim is said to be a big fan of the soon-to-be Chelsea man.
The now-Man United boss handed Essugo his first-team debut at just 16 years old, making him Sporting’s youngest-ever debutant.
Speaking after Essugo’s debut in 2021, Amorim sang the praises of the young midfielder.
“[Dário] is a very talented kid.
“Congratulations to Dário, who deserved it. He was called to training, performed his duties and showed great quality in the two weeks he worked with us,” (via Magg).
Essugo could be smart pick-up for Chelsea
Mainly deployed as a defensive midfielder, Essugo will likely rival the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in midfield.
His defensive abilities are his standout strength, something which may catch the eye of Enzo Maresca.
For example, while on loan at Las Palmas this season, Essugo has been a defensive monster for the La Liga strugglers and his exit will no doubt harm their survival hopes.
| Dario Essugo La Liga 24/25 stats | |
| Tackles | 2.04 |
| Interceptions | 1.96 |
| Clearances | 2.13 |
| Ball recoveries | 5.72 |

Cesare Casadei’s Chelsea exit and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s rumoured departure suggests we could see Essugo be handed minutes at Stamford Bridge next season.
