Why David Datro Fofana’s loan recall played key role in Joao Felix’s AC Milan move
In typical Chelsea fashion, deadline day has been very busy at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have signed Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon for £17m, meanwhile highly rated French midfielder Mathis Amougou is also nearing a Stamford Bridge move.
In terms of departures, Cesare Casadei has joined Torino, and Carney Chukwuemeka looks set to join Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Another loan exit that is on the cards is that of Joao Felix, who is joining AC Milan for the remainder of the season.
With Felix keen on the Serie A move, the Portuguese may have had to stay at Stamford Bridge if it wasn’t for one Chelsea decision.

David Fofana recall enables Joao Felix AC Milan loan move
Chelsea have been famed for their extensive loan system in recent years, they however, could have been prevented from loaning Felix out.
If it wasn’t for Chelsea’s decision to recall David Datro Fofana from Goztepe S.K, the Blues may have been unable to loan out the Porteguese star due to rules over international loan slots.
That is according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella, who claims Fofana’s return has freed up an international loan spot – preventing any possible issue surrounding Felix’s Milan switch.
Will Fofona feature for Chelsea this season?
Fofana has been out on a series of temporary moves since signing for the Blues, the latest of which was on loan at Turkish side Goztepe S.K.
The Ivorian would only make nine appearances in Turkey, with his season being halted by injury in December.

Having suffered a major knee injury, the striker is expected to miss the remainder of the season and will likely not feature for Enzo Maresca’s side this campaign.
