Todd Boehly comments on Chelsea's efforts to sign a new striker this summer, 'we are trying'...

Chelsea fans have made it no secret that they are extremely keen for the club to strengthen in one position in particular at the end of this season.

The striker role has not been addressed seriously ever since Todd Boehly and co took over the running of the club back in 2022.

The signing of Nicolas Jackson has been a positive one, however there are doubts that he has the credentials to lead the line for a side looking to compete for the Premier League title.

John Obi Mikel has been critical of Jackson, with him keen on the club signing Victor Osimhen at the start of this season, before the club walked away from any potential deadline day deal.

Enzo Maresca has had to get creative of late following an injury to the Senegal international that has seen no first team recognised strikers available for selection.

Pedro Neto has impressed in this role, however it doesn’t feel as if it can be a long-term solution to the situation despite his goal and assist in two appearances.

Boehly was asked about the club potentially signing a new striker and the difficulties they have faced in bringing one in before, with the American explaining that it is an extremely difficult process.

He said: “Strikers are hard to find. You don’t go into the grocery store and find a striker. It is a unique skillset and is hard to find. We are trying to balance short-term and long-term but we’re thinking in years.”

The Blues did add Marc Guiu to their ranks in the previous summer transfer window, with him impressing in the Conference League as the competition’s top scorer in the group stages.

However, the Spaniard is primarily seen as one for the future, and even if he was fit at this stage it would be a lot of pressure on someone to lead the line at Stamford Bridge as a teenager.

Chelsea’s top striker targets

The Blues have been linked to a plethora of names, with it looking like Maresca has identified one target in particular as his preference.

Maresca keeps mentioning Liam Delap in conversations about signing a new striker, as he continues to enjoy a strong first season in Premier League football.

The door is still open for one of their former targets, with Mikel stating Osimhen wants a move to Chelsea despite moving on loan to Galatasaray for this campaign.

The dream target to many would be Alexander Isak, however he is expected to cost a Premier League record fee if he was to leave Newcastle.
