Graeme Souness has launched a firm defence for Chelsea and England star Palmer by urging any of his critics to take a step backwards.
He’s certain that the left-footed attacker is still doing all the right things, and it’s a matter of time before his form turns. Also, he insists there’s nothing wrong with his body language and attitude.
Souness wrote in The Daily Mail: “I’ve got one message for the critics of Cole Palmer: back off!”
“Just because he has gone seven games without scoring people are now questioning his body language. He still looks dangerous to me. I don’t see any downing of tools in effort – as seven shots against Southampton should testify…
“You look at a player’s body language throughout the 90 minutes and I just see a totally focused young player.”
“With Chelsea not winning games recently, people are pointing the finger at Palmer and I’m afraid, young man, you set that bar yourself. He is going through a quieter period, but we will see him scoring goals again. He oozes class.”
Palmer struggled in Chelsea’s win over Southampton as he missed some glorious goalscoring opportunities. Even though he’s lost his shooting boots recently, it’s very encouraging that he’s still getting the chances and popping up in the right areas.
