'We will see': Enzo Maresca makes honest claim about new Chelsea signing Mathis Amougou
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has been speaking about new signing Mathis Amougou following his arrival in the very final stages of the January transfer window.
The Blues completed a deal to buy Mathis Amougou from Saint-Etienne on deadline day of the winter window.
Amougou, who’s aged 19, has made the big leap to Stamford Bridge as he experiences English football for the first time in his career.
Amougou has been pictured in Chelsea’s first-team training sessions ahead of this weekend’s trip to Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round, so it would be great to see him involved in a matchday squad for the very first time with them.

Enzo Maresca makes honest claim about new Chelsea signing Mathis Amougou
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has made the honest admission that the intention isn’t for Amougou to be an important player in the second half of the season. Instead, the French youngster arrives in West London as a star for the future as he’s given time to settle into life in a new environment.
“We didn’t sign him thinking he is going to play an important part with us [straight away],” Maresca said, as quoted by Chelsea’s official website.
“The reason why is because of his age and because we need the process. We signed him because we think he’s a good player and in some moment – after a while – he can help us…
“We saw that he could be a good player but now he needs to arrive here, adapt, process, and then we will see.”
When we look at Chelsea’s options in the central midfield position, we’d argue that Amougou will need to lend a hand. At the moment, the Blues risk burning out Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo by playing them every match.

Has Mathis Amougou been added to Chelsea’s Conference League squad?
If there’s a chance for Amougou to get some Chelsea first-team action this season, we’d guess it may come in the cup competitions. Has the teenage midfielder been added to the club’s new squad that they’ve just submitted for the Conference League knockout rounds, though?
The good news for Amougou is that he’s in the Blues’ updated squad for the European tournament.
Most notably, injured midfielder Romeo Lavia is missing from the squad and won’t be available to play on Thursday nights in a competition Chelsea are favourites to win.
Lavia could be back for Chelsea by mid-March from his latest injury blow, but the Blues haven’t risked including him in the Conference League plans.
