Fabrizio Romano shares why Enzo Maresca is ‘untouchable’ at Chelsea, it’s ‘very different’ to Mauricio Pochettino

It is sometimes easy to forget that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is currently in just his first season in the job, and his first as a Premier League manager altogether.

The Italian got off to a lighting quick start in the role, leading the Blues to as high as second in the league, and in the conversation to many as contenders to win the Premier League this season.

Maresca denied they could win the league though, and their run of form in 2025 has proven why his prediction was absolutely spot on.

There will no doubt be pressure on the boss to deliver success in the final few months of the campaign. With Chelsea out of the FA Cup and League Cup, there will be a lot of importance put on delivering the Conference League.

Chelsea see Enzo Maresca as ‘untouchable’

Nigel Reo-Coker has already stated that Maresca should be sacked if they don’t win it, however the Blues are unlikely to make any rash decisions like they have in the past.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that everyone at Chelsea are completely convinced by Maresca, and will continue with him in charge no matter how the season ends.

He said to GiveMeSport: “Contrary to what happened one year ago with Mauricio Pochettino, this year the feeling at Chelsea is completely different. Owners, directors… and players too, are believed to trust the manager, see the potential for Chelsea’s future but also for Maresca to improve as a coach and become one of the very best in the industry.

“The start was excellent, then the first few months of 2025 made it complicated, but sources at Chelsea insist on this point: Maresca is untouchable, a key part of the project with the club very happy to continue with him, no matter what happens in the final months.”

Maresca has previously utilised the competition for squad rotation, however a lot of the ‘B team’ from earlier this season have moved on.

The likes of Renato Veiga, Axel Disasi and Joao Felix have departed on loan, and the expectation is there will be a stronger look to the Chelsea side that take on Copenhagen in the Round of 16.
