Enzo Maresca gives positive injury update on four Chelsea players ahead of Copenhagen game
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has provided an injury update on four stars ahead of his side’s match against Copenhagen on Thursday evening.
The Blues are currently preparing for a last-16 tie in the Conference League, which is their last attempt to win any silverware this season.
Chelsea have arrived in Denmark ahead of the first leg away to Copenhagen on Thursday. Afterwards, the second leg will take place seven days later back in West London.
A dream March for Chelsea would include safe progression into the Conference League quarter-finals before the pause for an international break.

Enzo Maresca gives Chelsea injury update for Copenhagen clash
During his pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca provided a positive injury update on four individuals.
It’s been confirmed that Blues defenders Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile are both available for selection after their respective absences through injury recently. The centre-backs are part of the 21-man squad for the Conference League tie.
In addition, Wesley Fofana is fit despite being left off the trip to Copenhagen. Meanwhile, Romeo Lavia is edging closer to a comeback because he resumed training earlier this week.
When asked if Chalobah and Badiashile can play against Copenhagen, Maresca said via Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “Yeah, they are both ready. Trev [Chalobah] fortunately for us was not something serious so he is okay. Benoit is back and training with us in the last week to 10 days.
“Wes [Fofana] is not in the squad but also he is back. Romeo started to train with us in the last two days, so slowly we have all the players back.”
It’s a big boost to see Badiashile and Chalobah back with the group, while we understand the caution shown with Fofana given his injury troubles in the past.
As for Lavia, it’s a major boost that he’s back on the training pitches. With Moises Caicedo one booking away from a two-game suspension in the Premier League, the return of Lavia would be very timely for the group.
Paul Merson has noticed Chelsea missing Lavia during his injury absence. It sounds like his return isn’t too far away, but they’ll have to make do without him on Thursday.
| Player | Date of last Chelsea appearance |
| Benoit Badiashile | 8 December |
| Trevoh Chalobah | 22 February |
| Wesley Fofana | 1 December |
| Romeo Lavia | 14 January |
Chelsea confirm travelling squad for Copenhagen
On the Chelsea’s official website, Chelsea have listed the 21-man squad that has arrived in Denmark ahead of the first leg with Copenhagen.
- Goalkeepers: Lucas Bergstrom, Filip Jorgensen, Robert Sanchez
- Defenders: Josh Acheampong, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella, Malo Gusto, Reece James
- Midfielders: Mathis Amougou, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
- Forwards: Tyrique George, Shim Mhueka, Pedro Neto, Christopher Nkunku, Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho
As you can see above, the Blues have named a very strong travelling group. It’s the right move because they should be going all out to win this trophy this season.
Maresca may have in the back of his mind that Chelsea play just three days after the Copenhagen first leg when they host Leicester City in the Premier League.
Even though it’s a very strong travelling squad, perhaps youngsters such as Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong could be genuine options to feature heavily in midweek.
