Report: Chelsea think teenager with 'elite potential' can adapt to the Premier League very quickly next season
Chelsea reportedly believe that one youngster can adapt very quickly in their first team next season.
The current Chelsea squad is full of so many talented young players, which should make it easier for rising stars to step into the dressing room.
Joe Cole desperately wants more experience at Chelsea to help guide and educate such a young group.
During the Blues’ difficult run of results in 2025, they’ve been crying out for some more leadership and know-how to navigate the tough period.

Chelsea reckon Mike Penders can take to Premier League football quickly
Chelsea announced the signing of Mike Penders, who’s only aged 19, at the start of the season. However, the teenage goalkeeper officially joins the Blues in the summer of 2025 because he’s stayed with Genk this campaign to continue his development.
According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are not planning to sign a new keeper when the summer transfer window comes around.
Apparently, the Blues feel like the current crop of shot-stoppers are capable of competing for the starting position in-between the sticks next season. This includes the duo of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, plus Penders and Djordje Petrovic (on loan at Strasbourg).
The report adds that Penders is viewed by Chelsea as someone with ‘elite potential’. They think the Belgian youngster is capable of taking to Premier League football quickly as well.
Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain to sign Penders last summer, and it sounds like it might not be too long before we see him make his debut for the Blues. The youngster should fancy his chances of a breakthrough at Stamford Bridge if he’s competing against Jorgensen and Sanchez next season.

Mike Penders could make Chelsea even younger next season
If reports are true, Penders will get his opportunity to break into Chelsea’s side next season under Enzo Maresca. He turns 20 in July and could bring the average age down even further at the Bridge.
| Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |
| 23 | 30 | 7 |
Chelsea paid £17m (Evening Standard) to buy Penders from Genk last summer and should be pleased with his progression in recent months.
In the Belgian top division, he’s averaged a 7.14 match rating (Fotmob) this season. Of course, it would be a completely different challenge in the Premier League.
While we’re excited about the potential and talent in Penders, Chelsea may be shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t go out and sign an experienced goalkeeper.
