Enzo Maresca will have been delighted to welcome Romeo Lavia back to the starting side for the first time since January, and Lavia was given a standing ovation by the home crowd when he was replaced in the second half.
After the attackers did the business in the first half of the game, it was down to the defensive players to step up when they started to come under some pressure to hold on to their lead.
One of those who impressed in particular was Robert Sanchez, who enjoyed a rare dominant performance between the sticks after a tough season.

Jordan Pickford praised Sanchez for his display, with the Spaniard making a number of big saves to deny the Toffees what would have been a gut-wrenching equalising goal.
The performance was enough for Sanchez to be named in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week, with him being the only Chelsea representitive in the squad.
It is the first time this season that the goalkeeper has been named in the statistical Team of the Week, with his performances being the source of frustration for Blues fans numerous times throughout this season.

Robert Sanchez’s Chelsea future
With both Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen flattering to deceive throughout this campaign, reports have stated that there will be a full review of the goalkeeper situation at the end of the season.
This will see loanee Djordje Petrovic return to the thinking after his excellent season between the sticks at Strasbourg.
Reports have linked Sanchez with a move away this summer, perhaps suggesting that his future is not so bright at Stamford Bridge despite his clean sheet against Everton.
There have also been rumours of looking to bring in a new shot stopper. Gregor Kobel has reportedly been in talks over a potential move to West London.
