Enzo Maresca confirms ‘good news’ on two injured Chelsea players, 'very soon'
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has just provided a positive update on the fitness of two first-team players ahead of the match against Legia Warsaw.
Like most teams this season, Chelsea have had to juggle several injuries in their squad at the same time.
The Blues have still travelled to Poland this week with a strong group for their upcoming European tie.
On Thursday evening, Chelsea play away to Legia Warsaw in the first leg of a Conference League quarter-final clash. The second leg will be seven days later at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s predicted XI versus Legia Warsaw does include several changes from the team that were held to a goalless draw away to Brentford on Sunday in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca gives positive injury update on Romeo Lavia and Marc Guiu
During his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Enzo Maresca provided a positive update on Chelsea players Romeo Lavia and Marc Guiu.
Maresca said via Football.London: “Hopefully, we can get Romeo very soon. I don’t know if for the next game, but he looks quite good in terms of he can be back soon…
“Marc, we have good news from today that he looks quite good, much better, and he can be back before the season finishes.”
Lavia, 21, has had a stop-start spell during his first two seasons as a Chelsea player. The midfielder played against Arsenal before March’s international break before picking up yet another muscular problem.
When he plays, the Belgian star is majorly influential in the Blues XI. However, it’s becoming more and more concerning that he can’t stay fit.
| Season | Appearances |
| 2023/24 | 1 |
| 2024/25 season | 13 |
Paul Merson claims Chelsea really miss Lavia when he doesn’t play for them, which we totally agree with.
While it’s fantastic news that the deep-lying midfielder is expected back ‘very soon’, fans will be wary that he’s struggled to string a run of appearances together in the last couple of years.
As for 19-year-old Blues striker Guiu, he’s not featured since early February because of a hamstring problem. The Spanish frontman is expected back on the pitch before the end of the season, which would be a huge boost because he helps provide proper cover for Nicolas Jackson.
The timing of the youngster’s injury was extremely frustrating because Maresca claimed Guiu was ready for more minutes back in January.

Dario Essugo arrival at Chelsea next season will be key
As we’ve seen, Lavia’s injury record is a significant issue. Therefore, the Blues must go into next season with sufficient cover and competition at the base of midfield.
It was confirmed in March that Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign midfield talent Dario Essugo, 20, this summer.
Essugo will go straight into Chelsea’s first team next season, where we expect the youngster to compete for a midfield starting position.
The defensive midfielder, owned by Sporting Lisbon, has proven during a season-long loan at Las Palmas this year he’s a super talent.
