'He could still play': John Terry says defender Chelsea released in 2019 is still so good
John Terry has claimed that a former Chelsea teammate of his is good enough to come out of retirement and play in the modern day.
For Chelsea supporters of a certain age, John Terry was a giant figure in their childhood, as he captained the club during a golden era of Blues history.
The Englishman, who earned 78 senior international caps, has a legacy as one of the greatest defenders of his generation.

Terry rejected Manchester United at the beginning of his career because he knew Chelsea was the right club for him, and he never really looked back.
John Terry claims retired defender Gary Cahill could still play today
Chelsea legends from the past recently played at Cobham in a friendly game, which raised funds for Make-A-Wish and Rays of Sunshine. Terry played alongside the likes of Frank Lampard, Petr Cech, Gianfranco Zola, Ashley Cole and Roberto Di Matteo.
Afterwards, Terry actually said that former Blues teammate Gary Cahill was super impressive, adding the retired centre-half could still play today.
Speaking in a video on The John Terry Foundation, Terry said: “Big Gaz (Gary Cahill) was still solid as ever. I’m sure he could still play.”
Cahill, who’s now aged 39, retired from professional football in 2022.
His best club years where at Chelsea after joining them in 2012 before his release seven-and-a-half years later in 2019.
In the timeline of Chelsea captains during the Premier League era, Cahill followed in the humungous footsteps of Terry to wear the armband after him. Before that, the two English centre-halves were pretty effective in the same Blues XI.

Cahill played alongside some superb individuals at Stamford Bridge, especially in the defence. However, Cahill named Eden Hazard as his greatest teammate when he retired from football.
