Opta supercomputer predicts where Chelsea will finish in Premier League table after Ipswich draw

Chelsea’s end of season ambitions certainly took a hit at the weekend when they dropped points in the Premier League again.

The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town, where only their second half fightback saved them from what would have been an embarrassing defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were booed off at half-time, with Enzo Maresca facing plenty of stick amidst his side tumbling down the table.

Thierry Henry called out the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge as a major negative right now, with there being a severe disconnect between the manager and the supporters.

The aim set since September was to finish in the Champions League places this season, and while that is still more than achievable, they are going to need to pull out some big victories in their final six games.

Opta supercomputer predicts where Chelsea will finish in Premier League after Ipswich draw

As many as eight sides will qualify for European football for next season, meaning it looks almost a certainty that the Blues will be in some sort of competition in the upcoming campaign.

However, their ambition of returning amongst the elite in the continent is fading away, and now looks a tough task in the eyes of Opta too.

The Opta Supercomputer has predicted Chelsea will finish seventh in the Premier League. meaning they would be featuring in the Europa League next season.

This is unless Crystal Palace win the FA Cup, a scenario which would dump them into the Conference League again like it did last season when Manchester United won the competition.

Enzo Maresca’s future amidst Chelsea falling down the league

By all accounts, Maresca has been ‘untouchable’ in his role as Chelsea manager, with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali desperate to stick with a head coach after one has not been able to last more than a season at the club since they took over.

However, the latest report following the draw against Ipswich is that Maresca is safe right now, although supporters may turn if they do not finish in the top five this season.

Finding a new manager for the upcoming campaign may prove to be difficult, given the fact that a lot of their former targets have been snapped up by other sides.

Ruben Amorim is the Manchester United manager, whilst fan favourite Thomas Tuchel has taken over as the England manager for the next year or so at least.
