Chelsea fans are in total agreement after claims Enzo Maresca wants to keep Benoit Badiashile
Even though he’s not an automatic starter at Chelsea, the transfer noise coming out of Stamford Bridge is that Benoit Badiashile will be staying at the club beyond the summer.
Chelsea do have a number of central defenders in their first-team squad, including Benoit Badiashile.
The 24-year-old centre-half struggled for regular minutes last season under head coach Enzo Maresca, but it sounds like he will continue to fight for his place in West London.

Reports this week claim that Maresca wants to keep Badiashile, and he’s planning for next season with him in his plans. In addition, Badiashile made it clear he’s not looking to leave Chelsea. He said: “Yes, I will still be at Chelsea next season.”

Chelsea fans get behind Enzo Maresca
Blues supporters on X have given the exact same response to claims that Maresca wants to keep Badiashile.
Ultimately, Chelsea fans are ready to fully support Maresca in his decisions, even if it’s over a player that has sometimes divided opinion.
One fan wrote: “Do as you please, gaffer. You’ve earned it.”
“If the coach says he stays, then we’re good,” another posted.
One supporter claimed: “I trust everything he plans, and that goes to the ownership too.”
“Whatever you say boss,” another said.
It’s pretty clear that Maresca has won over the majority of the Chelsea fanbase, winning both the Club World Cup and the Conference League during his debut season at the club.
During a recent interview, Blues right-back Malo Gusto explained Maresca is more focused on tactics than Mauricio Pochettino, his predecessor in the manager’s dugout. The attention to detail and tactical flexibility have shone through during Maresca’s first year in charge of Chelsea.
How Chelsea’s central defence is shaping up for the 2025/26 season
With Badiashile now expected to stay at Chelsea, where he’s still under contract until 2030, it’s interesting to look at the options in the heart of the team’s defence.
Chelsea are looking for a new defender this summer, someone who could be a hybrid to cover both left-back and centre-back.
At the moment, Badiashile and Levi Colwill are left-footed defenders to battle it out for the left-sided centre-half position. Next to them, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo or Wesley Fofana look like the senior defenders vying for one starting position.
Mamadou Sarr, who’s only aged 19, has also arrived into the squad this summer as a highly-rated central defender. Apparently, Chelsea staff have given rave reviews on Sarr after last year’s impressive season at Strasbourg.
It feels like Maresca needs to have a long think about whether or not he actually needs a new centre-back.
