Chelsea have history with Club World Cup semi-final referee, he sent off £50m man in huge game
Chelsea players have found it difficult to stay on the right side of the line when it comes to discipline in the ongoing Club World Cup.
The Blues have picked up 12 individual yellow cards during the tournament so far, with Moises Caicedo missing the quarter-final due to being suspended.
Levi Colwill and Liam Delap have both met the same fate ahead of the upcoming semi-final against Thiago Silva’s Fluminense side, leaving Enzo Maresca with some decisions to make regarding his team selection.

He will be able to select Nicolas Jackson again following his red card earlier in the competition against Flamengo. However, the Senegal international didn’t get a minute on the pitch during their quarter-final victory.

Francois Letexier appointed referee for Chelsea’s Club World Cup semi-final vs Fluminense
With yellow cards wiping ahead of the upcoming game, those players who are currently on one yellow card for the tournament do not have to worry about missing out on the final, should they make it there.
This may come as a relief after seeing who will be in charge of the game. As per FIFA’s official website, Francois Letexier from France will be running the semi-final.
He has refereed two games so far in the Club World Cup, including a Round of 16 game between Palmeiras and Botofogo that saw 11 yellow cards and one red.
Letexier has been in charge of three Chelsea games in the past. The Blues won two and lost another of their previous outings when he was in control of the game.

The defeat came in the wake of Graham Potter’s exit from the club, when they were looking to do the impossible and beat Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
A 2-0 defeat effectively put an end to those hopes, with their mountain being made even higher when Ben Chilwell was sent off at 1-0.
The £50m signing brought down Rodrygo, and was deemed to have denied a clear goalscoring opportunity in the process.
While a yellow card will not see any Chelsea players suspended for the final, a red card obviously will, and is something the squad will be looking to avoid to spoil what has been an excellent campaign so far in the United States.
